Wong Ching-yin

Huqin virtuoso of the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, Wong joined the HKCO in 2023 and followed the orchestra to tours in Singapore, Australia, Korea and Chinese Mainland. He studied under Cheung Waifung since young age on erhu, banhu and gaohu. He has served as the concertmaster of Hong Kong Youth Chinese Orchestra.


Wong majored in organ in his undergraduate years under tutelage of Dr. Anne Lam and studied with Hans Hellsten and Anders Johnson in Sweden when he had his exchange studies. After joining the HKCO,he collaborated with the orchestra to premiere the Opus in Celebration of Prosperous Times, composed by master Kuan Nai-chung, and also served as the full-score keyboard performer and speaker for the International Master Class on Chinese Music Conducting.


Wong is active as a performer, composer, and conductor. He holds a Master of Music (Composition) degree under supervision of Prof. Chan Kai-young at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His work sare experimental in nature and noted for their innovative sonic language; they have been performed in regions including China, United States, Sweden, and Spain, and featured at renowned festivals such as Junein Buffalo (USA, 2022) and VIPA (Spain, 2022). He also served as a composition adjudicator for the first‘Music from the Heart – Budding Composers’. As a conductor, he specialises particularly in contemporary repertoire, having studied with Mr Vicky Shin and Mr Li Yi-wei Angus. He served as assistant conductor ofHong Kong New Music Ensemble during the 2022–23 season, and, during his university years, conducted both the Chung Chi Student Chinese Orchestra and the Chung Chi Student Orchestra.
